Latest SEM in EMC purchased by the University in 2021, the Apreo 2C is high performance, all round microscope for imaging, elemental and crystallographic analysis. A combination of beam deceleration and in column detector capture an excellent resolution image at low voltage. Also, new electron optics maintains stable electron beam with small probe size at high current condition. This is an advantage for elemental and crystallographic analysis. Flexible control of BSE detector segments allow to collect specific take-off angle BSE signals leading to surface topographic and Z contrast information.
For elemental analysis, the Apreo is equipped with Thermofisher Scientific house made 30 mm EDX detector. EDX software integrated in SEM user interface enabling simultaneous elemental map and imaging assists rapid searching on a specific sight of interest unrecognisable by BSE imaging. For crystallographic analysis Oxford Instruments Symmetry 2 EBSD detector is attached. Indexing speeds is in excess of 5700 pattern per second and higher sensitivity CMOS camera allows to obtain EBSD Map quickly.
